Editorial Cartoons

Fri Jan 2, 2009, 7:10 PM
So I was just sitting around looking through my old art, and I came across the collection of political and editorial cartoons I did throughout my coursework. It became my thesis in my final projects class, and I even ended up publishing them on a weekly basis in the school newspaper.
I put them in scraps I guess because most of them aren't quite relevant anymore and I haven't done any for probably almost 2 years now. It could very much be something I could get back into, but I abandoned it because the industry seemed completely competitive and living in a large city like Charlotte, NC the main paper here has almost no room for an emerging cartoonist when they've had a solid artist for the past at least 5 years or so.
Which leads me to my next point of how discouraged I was at the time because I made two attempts to contact our newspapers cartoonist. I will leave him unnamed though I guess it wouldn't be hard to research Charlotte's paper to figure out who. I was a great admirer of the guy's work and just wanted professional advice. I don't know if it was the fact that he was threatened by emerging artists, or just didn't have the time to waste.
Nevertheless, let me know what you think and I may get back into doing editorial cartoons again.
